Hutch Johnson has had a passion for design since he was 5 years old. Drawing inspiration from everything and everyone around him, he decided to make a career of it.Hutch graduated cum laude from the School of Design at North Carolina State University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture. He went on to complete a professional degree with a Bachelor of Architecture from the School of Design in 1984. He established WHJ Design, Inc., in 1988.Specializing in Residential Design, Hutch’s approach to any project is client-centered. He makes it a priority to listen to individual wants and needs, and finds a way to best incorporate them into an immensely creative, practical and aesthetically pleasing design. Always happy to offer advice, Hutch makes sure he’s meeting the goals of his client rather than his own.Hutch has never met a project he couldn’t tackle. Hutch’s broad vision allows him to work with a large spectrum of client personalities and tastes, with any budget, on projects from a front door to a unique horse barn to a 15,000 square foot home.While the majority of work he does is in North Carolina, Hutch has also worked on many projects up and down the east coast, from Florida to the coast of Maine. He’s always willing to work on projects at any location, on any terrain — from the mountains to the coast and the flatland in between.
Community Involvement
Iris grew up immersed in the residential design field through her father who would regularly take her to job sites of the various homes he designed. At a young age, she realized that she had a love for interior design and started interning with different firms by the age of 15. By immersing herself in the interior design field at an early age she was able to gain knowledge of the field and realize that residential interior design was her passion.Iris graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. Upon graduation she worked for an e-commerce furniture company as a Trade Account Manager and Catalog Producer. This helped her to gain a high understanding of product quality and production time for furniture.Concentrating on residential interior design, Iris focuses on the clients wants and needs for their specific project. She wants every client to come home to a space that they love and that fits their personality. Iris’s prior design experience enables her to help the client find their style whether it is traditional, transitional or contemporary.
